SCSU students protest Lt. Gov Evette commencement address

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Students at South Carolina State University are protesting the selection of Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette as this year’s commencement speaker.

Demonstrations were held on campus Tuesday, April 28, in opposition to Evette.

Demonstrators cited Evette’s defense of the president’s post depicting the Obamas as monkeys and opposition to a statewide hate crime law.

Evette posted a response to the protests on social media Tuesday, saying the Republicans lead the way in investing in and supporting HBCU’s.

She added that she looks forward to attending South Carolina State’s Commencement Ceremony.
