U.S. economy grew 2% in 1st quarter
(CNN)– The U.S. economy showed strong growth at the start of the year even as global tensions began to rise.
Thurs, April 30, 2026, the Commerce Department released new data showing gross domestic product rose at a 2% annual rate during the first quarter.
That’s up sharply from just half a percent at the end of last year.
The gains were driven by steady consumer spending, business investment, and higher exports along with government spending resuming after a lengthy shutdown.
