CFD: Fire at Samara East Apartments displaces 28

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Columbia firefighters responded to a 2-Alarm fire at an apartment complex Tuesday night.

Officials say they were called to Samara East Apartments off of Bayfield Road before 9:40 p.m. & found heavy fire coming from one end of the building and spreading through parts of the roof.

According to firefighters, all occupants escaped safely but one occupant of the building was transported by Richland County EMS to get checked out as a precaution.

The fire was extinguished but out of the eight total units in the building, four were left damaged by fire, smoke and water.

Officials say about 28 people were left displaced and the Red Cross of South Carolina is helping them.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office.
