Mailing guns through USPS could soon be allowed
(CNN)– For the first time in nearly a century the U.S. Postal Service might soon accept handguns to be mailed.
A proposed rule backed by the Trump Administration would let law-abiding gun owners ship pistols and revolvers through the mail under certain restrictions.
Current law bans the USPS from mailing concealable firearms unless they come from licensed dealers.
But a January Justice Department memo argues the restriction violates the second amendment.
Gun safety groups warn the change could fuel illegal gun trafficking.
Supporters including the NRA call it a victory for lawful gun owners.
