SCHP: Person refueling disabled vehicle hit on highway, 1 arrested for DUI
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– SC Highway Patrol arrested a man after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Richland County early Saturday.
According to troopers, a person was putting fuel in their disabled vehicle on the shoulder of I-20 east at mile marker 75 in Richland Co. around 2:30 a.m. in the morning, May 9, when 42-year-old William Gunter hit that pedestrian and their vehicle and left the scene.
The victim died at the scene.
A passenger inside the victim’s vehicle wasn’t hurt.
Troopers say Gunter was later involved in another wreck and was arrested.
He’s now facing several charges including felony DUI, possession of marijuana and leaving a scene of a collision involving death.
