Gov. McMaster calls for General Assembly to discuss congressional maps redistricting

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Governor Henry McMaster has issued Executive Order 2026-09 to reconvene the General Assembly for an extra legislative session.

According to the governor’s office, the governor has issued the order for the General Assembly to take up the General Appropriations Act to continue consideration of South Carolina’s congressional districts, and address other matters of public importance beginning Friday, May 15, 2026, at 11 a.m.

The governor’s executive order will remain in effect unless and until modified, amended, or rescinded by a subsequent order.

Gov. McMaster has not reconvened the General Assembly for a special session since 2023 when he became the first governor since Jim Hodges to do so, says the Governor’s Office.
