New statewide media campaign targets Gen-Z mental health

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– May is Mental Health Month and a newly released statewide media campaign is targeting Gen-Z audiences with a message that your Brain is a Jerk campaign.

Takes an unconventional approach to help those between the ages of 14 and 29 recognize the critical inner voice many people deal with and counter it with a more helpful message.

The state’s Office of Mental Health launched the radio, digital, and billboard ads at the end of April, and hopes the campaign will help young people identify and stop harmful thought patterns.

Jessica Coburn with the state’s Office of Mental Health joined ABC Columbia’s Kelly Coakley to talk about the campaign.

Coburn says they wanted to target the youth and young adults because they go through a lot of hard times, and wanted something to catch their attention.
