SC lawmakers to continue special session called by governor

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– SC lawmakers reconvened for a special session Friday morning, May 15, 2026, after  Governor Henry McMaster issued an executive order.

The governor says the extra session will be used for lawmakers to continue discussion on congressional redistricting.

This is the first time the governor has called for a special session since 2023.

Democrats argue that the change is not in the best interest of the people of the state, while Republicans argue that it is within their rights and constitutional.

The house will resume the session Monday morning, May 18, at 11 a.m.
