More households skip meals due to food cost

(CNN)– More American families are struggling to afford food.

That’s according to new research released Weds, May 27, by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Researchers found food insecurity has climbed sharply since the early months of the pandemic especially among lower-income households, families with young children, and people with less education.

In February, 10% of households surveyed said they did not have enough food.

That’s up from 4% in mid-2020.

More people also reported receiving food assistance, relying on donations, and dipping into savings to cover everyday expenses.
