Body of missing 5-year-old recovered in Georgetown County, deputies say

Georgetown Co., S.C. (WPDE)–The body of 5-year-old Sailor Hayes was found Monday morning on the second day of the search, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Sailor wandered away from the home her family was renting in Hagley Estates in Pawleys Island Sunday. She was found near the area where she was last seen Monday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said divers with the Department of Natural Resources helped with the underwater search, and the Coast Guard is set to return with marine resources.

Sheriff’s Office deputies, K9 units and boats also continued their efforts on land and in the water, according to the sheriff’s office.

Overnight Sunday, deputies said they continued a ground search and boat patrols along the shoreline. They also said the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) sent a helicopter and underwater drone to assist with the search for several hours and the U.S. Coast Guard sent a vessel to help with searches as well.
