Cayce Police arrest person in connection with fatal hit-and-run
CAYCE, S.C. (WOLO)– Cayce Police have made an arrest in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that happened last month, say officers.
Police say in the early morning hours of Aug. 23, officers traveling on Frink Street found Cayce resident Janyne Renee Mbeng lying in the roadway after she had been hit by a vehicle.
Officers provided lifesaving aid before taking Mbeng to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Following the collision, Cayce Police detectives worked alongside patrol officers, the South Carolina Highway Patrol Multi-Agency Investigation Team, and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office to collect evidence, interview witnesses, and establish a timeline of events.
Investigators reviewed surveillance and traffic-camera footage and identified a green 1998 Toyota T100 pickup truck as a vehicle of interest.
The driver who was identified as Govani Gregorio Pineda was located for questioning.
On Wednesday, Sept. 9, Pineda turned himself in at the Cayce Police Department and was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center, where he was booked on a charge of hit-and-run resulting in death.
The investigation remains active, and detectives continue to pursue additional leads and investigate other individuals and vehicles of interest.
