Dominion to lower Lake Murray levels

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– You can expect Lake Murray to be a little lower in the coming months.
Officials with Dominion Energy say, after consulting with the Department of Natural Resources, they will begin a drawdown of the lake this fall.
Officials say the lake will reach 350 feet by December and will remain at that depth until January.
A Dominion spokesperson says the drawdown will help control aquatic vegetation and maintain water quality.

“Every few years we lower the lake so that we can limit growth of certain aquatic vegetation,” said Dominion Energy South Carolina vice president of power generation Iris Griffin. “If left unchecked, the vegetation can negatively affect water quality and make recreational use of the lake difficult. The drawdown also gives lake residents and businesses an opportunity to perform maintenance and repairs on their private docks or shorelines.”
