Man charged after deputies find adult, infant living in insect-infested house

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Orangeburg Co. Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says an Orangeburg man has been charged after deputies found an adult and infant living in “deplorable” conditions.

Sheriff Ravenell says 25-year-old Justice Anderson has been charged with one count each of unlawfully placing a child at risk and neglect toward a vulnerable adult.

MUSC personnel notified Orangeburg County Sheriff’s deputies on Friday, September 4, of a one-year-old child who had severe injuries.

“This began as an investigation into a child’s injuries and wound up being a neglect and abuse situation,” the sheriff says.

While investigating the Mannlicher Drive home, deputies discovered the home to be in a “deplorable” condition, according to the warrant.

The home was cluttered with trash, insect-infested, without running water or electricity, say deputies.

“The conditions of this home were absolutely and disgustingly appalling,” the sheriff continues.

Also, a vulnerable 42-year-old female was found “in a bed full of maggots and rotten food.”

Bond was set on Anderson at $135,000.
