Summerville reviews clinic for troubled teens

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Officials in Summerville are reviewing the business license, code and zoning requirements of a clinic that works with teens with behavioral problems after several escapes.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that Summerville Town Council on Monday asked the town attorney to conduct the review.

The facility has been given a permit to build a 12-foot-high security fence around the property.

Town attorney Mark Stokes says if he finds a violation, the business license can be suspended and the center would close.

Councilman Walter Bailey says he’s concerned about safety, both within the center and in the neighborhood.

A representative for the 60-bed center at the meeting did not comment.

The facility treats adolescents for sexual aggression, substance abuse and post-traumatic stress.
