CONGRESSIONAL PRIMARIES

CHARLESTON — In a primary season lacking statewide races, most of the attention this year is focused on South Carolina’s new 7th Congressional District, with 13 candidates vying for major party nominations in the district carved out of the northeastern corner of the state. For the first time in some 80 years, South Carolina will again have seven House members representing the state in Washington. There are also three other contested congressional primaries to be decided in the June 12 balloting. By Bruce Smith.
