SC’s Fort Jackson reopens renovated Army museum

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) — After a two-year renovation, South Carolina’s Fort Jackson is reopening its museum with new, interactive computer displays that allow visitors to experience soldiers’ combat training.

The newly-minted U.S. Army Basic Combat Training Museum celebrates Friday with displays of military gear, uniforms, and vehicles that soldiers have used for the past 90 years.

Fort Jackson spokesman Pat Jones says the old museum focused on the history of Fort Jackson and how it became the Army’s largest training installation.

Jones says the new site gives insight into the physical preparedness, weapons training and values instilled in soldiers. Those who wish to visit must provide photo identification, proof of car or motorcycle insurance and proof of car or motorcycle registration. Friday’s event lasts from noon to 4 p.m.
