New US citizens sworn in at SC’s Middleton Place
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina home of a man who signed the Declaration of Independence is the site where some of America’s newest citizens are scheduled to take their oath of citizenship.
An official from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration is to administer the oath Friday at Middleton Place, the historic home on the Ashley River that belonged to Arthur Middleton.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that Middleton Place Foundation President Charles Duell was to open the ceremony under the canopy of grand oaks outside the home site.
About 60 to 70 citizen candidates were expected to participate. The event is open to the public and visitors may tour the site’s gardens afterward.
