COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — When you think back on the past two weeks for the Gamecocks baseball team, one of the first things you have to think of, is the fans. They were there to send the team back to Omaha, and they sent them with high hopes. “Maybe this will give them the umph, to do it again,” says one Gamecock fan. “We can be proud that the Gamecocks go back to Omaha and be National champs again,” says another fan. The fans were also there to welcome the team as they brought that second National trophy, back home. But the fan support went farther than that. While the team battled in Omaha, fans were here wearing their colors. “I will always support my Gamecocks, and if the least I can do is wear garnet and black I’ll do it.” Fans even knew what to wear for each game. “Grey on Monday, garnet on Tuesday and black on Wednesday, if necessary,” says Grey Register. And let’s not forget about all the Gamecock merchandise that flew off the shelves. “Last weekend was absolutely berzerk, the farther the team goes the more and more people will come in,” says Phillip Graham of Jewelry Warehouse. Yet, some fans went even further, some went all the way to Omaha. And with every win the fans grew more hopeful for a, repeat. While others already knew it was in the bag. “USC might as well get a spot ready, dust it off now, it’s coming home, it’s coming home,” says Bob Decker. For the entire time, across half the nation, Gameock Nation was behind there team. And even when their love for the team brought them to tears, they were there. And when the team came home, fans from across the state were there to welcome them, a reminder of their support. From Carolina Stadium, to Omaha, Nebraska, back to Main Street in Columbia and all the way to the Statehouse steps, Gamecock Nation was there.
