SC man: Was aiming at stingray when friend was hit

AWENDAW, S.C. (AP) — An Awendaw man charged with attempted murder after his friend was shot in the head and wounded says he was aiming for a stingray in the water.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that 25-year-old Ian Wrobleski also told police he didn’t know the .22-caliber rifle was loaded when he pulled the trigger Sunday.

A witness told investigators the men were drinking and fishing on a dock outside the suspect’s home and started arguing when Wrobleski pointed the rifle at his friend.

The witness told police he heard a gunshot and then heard Wrobleski laugh.

The victim told police the last thing he remembers is Wrobleski pointing the rifle at him.

It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
