Goose Creek woman charged with felony DUI in death

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A Goose Creek woman has been charged with felony driving under the influence after a wreck on Interstate 26 killed a passenger in her vehicle.

The Highway Patrol charged 20-year-old Evelyn Freeman after the wreck in North Charleston early Wednesday.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin says 28-year-old Terrall Freeman of North Charleston died at the scene. Martin says she doesn’t think the driver and victim were related.

Witnesses told dispatchers the sports utility vehicle had been speeding and swerving shortly before the crash in the median. Officials say the wreck threw Terrall Freeman into the highway, where he was hit by another car.

The maximum penalty for felony DUI is 25 years in prison. It wasn’t clear if Evelyn Freeman has an attorney.
