Cops: NC men defrauded 84-year-old SC woman

TIMMONSVILLE, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina state police say two North Carolina men have been charged with taking advantage of an 84-year-old woman and stealing thousands of dollars from her.

The State Law Enforcement Division says 34-year-old Jeffrey Scott Moffitt of Asheboro, N.C., was arrested in Virginia on Wednesday and charged with exploiting a vulnerable adult and obtaining goods under false pretenses.

Authorities say that Moffitt and a co-defendant defrauded a vulnerable 84-year-old woman out of several thousand dollars on two separate occasions last year.

Police say 32-year-old Charles Ray Styles of Thomasville, N.C., was arrested in January and charged with the same crimes as Moffitt.

It wasn’t clear if either man had an attorney.
