SC House bill to prevent state from restricting short-term rentals
South Carolina cities and counties could lost state funding if they restrict short-term rentals under a proposed bill from house lawmakers.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— South Carolina cities and counties could lost state funding if they restrict short-term rentals under a proposed bill from house lawmakers.
Some of the bill’s sponsors, including representatives Lee Hewitt and Todd Rutherford spoke about the proposal at the State House yesterday.
According to the South Carolina Association of Realtors, short-term rentals make a $4.2 billion economic impact annually in the Palmetto State, which creates jobs and drives tourism in communities.
Lawmakers say those restrictions can range from caps on the number of permits to geographic restrictions based on zoning.
