Students from around the nation help in SC
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Hundreds of high school students from as far away as Michigan and Louisiana are lending a helping hand this week in two South Carolina counties.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that 350 students are helping fix homes of the elderly and the disabled in Jasper and Beaufort counties.
Teens with an organization known as the Catholic HEART Workcamp have been visiting South Carolina each summer for more than a decade to help repair homes. The project is coordinated each year by the United Way of the Lowcountry.
The students are working this week at 55 sites in the two counties.
