Man fires on officers in Dorchester County chase

ST. GEORGE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say several Dorchester County deputies were shot at while chasing a stolen car.

Investigators said the chase began on Interstate 95 around 7 p.m. Tuesday when an officer tried to stop an Acura for an improper lane change. The car slowed in the emergency lane, then took off.

Authorities say the chase reached 100 mph on I-95 before the driver exited to state Highway 61. While on the two-lane road, deputies say a passenger reached through the moon roof and fired several shots at officers.

The deputies managed to wreck the car, and the two men ran, but were taken into custody a few minutes later. The officers were not injured.

Investigators are still trying to confirm the suspects’ identities.

The car was reported stolen in Charlotte, N.C.
