Ex-Dallas boot camp head charged in fraud case
SELMA, Ala. (AP) — A 51-year-old former Selma resident has been arrested at his home in Columbia, S.C. and charged in a securities fraud case with allegedly collecting money to operate a facility for troubled children in Dallas County, although District Attorney Michael Jackson said there was no evidence plans for that facility ever existed.
Jerome Yelder, former director of a Dallas County youth boot camp program, was arrested June 27 after being indicted by a Dallas County grand jury.
He was charged with sale of an unregistered security, sale of a security by an unregistered agent, three counts of fraud, one count of first-degree theft by deception and two counts of second-degree theft by deception.
Yelder waived extradition and was transported to Dallas County, where he was released on $51,000 bond.
