Doctor: She Could Make Anyone Feel Special

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Thursday family, friends and co-workers of Jeanne Schmidt, who served as the Director of Camp Kemo, said goodbye to her. Schmidt, 55, passed away over the weekend. “Joyful person and I know that she received her joy and strength from her relationship with God and Jesus Christ.” Dr. Ron Neuberg of Palmetto Health Richland “She was the queen of themes, she always had to have a theme for camp,” says Dr. Neuberg This past summer campers embarked on a ‘Camp Kemo Cruise,’ we had the chance to meet them on their stop in ‘Hawaii,’ and learn more about the camp’s impact for campers and counselors alike. “They have the opporunity to do things they wouldn’t normally be able to do during the year,” says Ross Sawyer, Counelor. According to Neuberg that’s how Schmidt wanted it. “It wasn’t about focusing on the illness, it was about focusing on healing and love which is what life is all about,” says Dr. Neuberg. Schmidt spent 26 years of her life helping others at Palmetto Health Richland. But Thursday, family, friends, co-workers and many others gathered to say goodbye to Jeanne Schmidt. Neuberg says Schmidt worked and loved in a sacrficial way. “She would do for others and she would deflect any of the praise for the things that she did,” says Dr. Neuberg.
