Clemson kicks off summer camp sessions
PENDLETON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson University is kicking off a session of a summer camp for people with developmental disabilities.
Clemson says a two-week session at Jaycee Camp Hope opens up Sunday at Lake Hartwell in Pendleton.
Organizers say the camp is for children and adults with developmental disabilities. There are traditional camp activities like canoeing, swimming, fishing and crafts, and camp officials say the experience helps campers develop independence as they learn to do things for themselves.
The South Carolina Junior Chamber of Commerce has given financial support for every camper attending Jaycee Camp Hope since 1969.
The Jaycees have subsidized fees for more than 10,000 campers and were instrumental in establishing the Outdoor Lab as a permanent home for Jaycee Camp Hope in 1975.
