SC Ports Authority agrees to sell Port Royal land
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The State Ports Authority has agreed for a third time to sell 51 acres it owns in Port Royal in Beaufort County.
Authority spokesman Byron Miller says the board approved a resolution Tuesday to allow its chairman or the authority’s chief executive to sign a sales contract for $17 million.
The name of the buyer has not been revealed and there’s an inspection period before the sale can be finalized. It must be approved by the state Budget and Control Board.
It’s been seven years since then-Gov. Mark Sanford called for selling the property. The last publicly released appraisal set its value at as much as $16.3 million.
The authority operated a small port on the land from 1958 through 2004.
