Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–The Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced a suspect has been arrested after shots were fired at the intersection of Stoneridge Dr. and Greystone Blvd.

Authorities say 26 year-old Brandon Joyner was reported after he was seen firing shots in the air while walking down the area.

The suspect and responding deputies exchanged gunfire. The man fled into a wood line where he was eventually apprehended and transported to a hospital for a non-life threatening wound to the upper body, say officials.

One police officer was left injured, say deputies. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

Authorities say the suspect is prohibited from carrying an armed weapon, is currently on active probation, and is a documented gang member.

He had previously been convicted of threatening the life of a public official.

Local hotels were evacuated and cleared for safety due to the incident.
