Pickens man sentenced to 10 years in prison for child pornography offense

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— A Pickens man was sentenced to 10 years after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.

Matthew Arotin, 63, admitted to having inappropriate pictures of children on electronic devices, according to the United States Department of Justice.

The arrest comes after Pickens County deputies received a cyber tip that child sexual abuse material was uploaded to a Google account. 1,334 still images and 135 videos of child pornography were discovered in his possession.

Arotin was ordered to pay $68,000 to the victims whose images he possessed, says authorities.

He was a registered sex offender based on previous convictions.
