Emanuel AME Voicemail: ‘It’s Dylann. I’m coming back’
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Charleston police are investigating a threatening voicemail left at Emanuel AME Church.
According to police, the message left on the church’s phone system was: “Hey guys, this is Dylann. I’m coming back for round two. I’m just kidding, that actually wasn’t Dylann Roof.”
Roof was charged with killing nine parishioners of the church in June and is currently being held in isolation at the Charleston County Detention Center.
Police say the call message was left on Dec. 6 around 6 p.m., but was not heard by church staff until a few days later.
Someone typing on a keyboard could be heard in the background, police said.
It’s unclear if police were able to see the phone number from which the threatening call was made.
This is not the first time there have been threats made connected to June’s shooting.
On the night of the shooting, there were a series of bomb threats made for the church and areas around it. And then a few days later during a memorial service at nearby Morris AME Church, a bomb threat also caused the church to be evacuated and streets to be shut down while police and sheriff’s deputies investigated.
