Officials: 2 people dead after SC vehicle crash
DEWEES ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a small vehicle crashed in Charleston County, killing two people.
A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration says the unregistered vehicle crashed about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday on the shore of Dewees Island, 20 miles northeast of Charleston. Kathleen Bergen says the vehicle was destroyed, but whether it was an airplane or homemade glider of some sort was unclear. Bergen said the vehicle appeared to be inflatable with a canopy and a propeller attached.
Eyewitnesses say the vehicle became airborne.
WCSC-TV reports the two people inside the vehicle were found dead in the water. The Charleston County Sheriff’s office says the craft was an ultralight Zodiac..
