Judge Grants Bond for Former N. Charleston Officer

A state judge has ruled that a former North Charleston police officer accused of shooting an unarmed man can be released on bond.

Attorneys discussed the process to declare former North Charleston police officer Michael Slager indigent, thus making him eligible for state-funded legal assistance during a Dec. 23, 2015 hearing. His attorneys want help paying for expert witnesses.

Charleston, S.C. (WOLO)–  A state judge has ruled that a former North Charleston police officer accused of shooting an unarmed man can be released on bond.

 

Monday afternoon bond was set at $500,000 for Michael Slager.

Slager is accused in the April shooting death of Walter Scott.

According to the terms of his release Slager will be under house arrest and cannot have any contact with the family of the victim.

His trial is set for October 31st.
