Public Safety Checkpoint Planned
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook announces that in an effort to keep drivers safe, a public safety checkpoint has been planned in the City of Columbia.
Starting Friday evening, CPD’s Traffic Safety Unit will enhance patrols and DUI enforcement across the City and in South Columbia.
The areas were selected based on traffic violations that have occurred including DUI and speeding incidents, and in an effort to reduce traffic collisions.
Every vehicle that enters the checkpoint will be stopped.
Officers will check drivers for:
* Valid driver’s license
* Possible Impairment
* Seatbelt Use
* Proper child restraints (when applicable)
* Any other violations of law that may be observed.
Safety Tips:
* Find a designated driver if you are planning to consume alcohol
* Wear your seatbelt
* Obey the rules of the road
* Do not speed
* Stay alert
* Do not text and drive
Drivers are encouraged to call 9-1-1 if they suspect that a driver is impaired.
