NC man sentenced to 20 years in fatal SC crash

LORIS, S.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for an Horry (oh-REE) County crash that killed a 56-year-old Loris man.

Authorities say 25-year-old Timothy Wayne Fowler of Tabor City, N.C., was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to felony DUI resulting in death.

Authorities say Fowler was charged June 4 following a head-on crash on U.S. 701 North three miles north of Loris. Troopers say Robert C. Byerly was driving a 2008 Chevrolet June 3 when it was struck by Fowler’s 1999 Kia sport utility vehicle.

Authorities say Fowler lost control and crossed the center line, striking Byerly’s vehicle.

Coroner Robert Edge said Byerly was pronounced dead at a hospital and had been wearing a seatbelt.
