WATCH: 2016 GOP Race, Ted Cruz Profile
Columbia , SC (WOLO) — This week, ABC Columbia will be profiling each GOP candidate each day before the First in the South Primary on Saturday, February 20th.
Seeking the highest political office, Texas Senator Ted Cruz trails close behind front-runner Donald Trump. Cruz was the first GOP candidate to announce his run for presidency last year, calling himself a courageous conservative on his campaign website. Cruz is focusing his campaign on securing the nations border, strengthening the nations military and restoring the nations constitution.
“The first thing I intend to do is rescind every single illegal and unconstitutional executive action taken by President Obama,” said Cruz.
In the wake of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s death, Cruz said he supports the next President filling the vacancy.
“I will nominate a new conservative justice to replace Antonin Scalia to the Supreme Court,” explained Cruz.
The Texas Senator swept first in Iowa and finished 3rd in the New Hampshire primary, but is facing harsh criticism ahead of the first in the south primary from front-runner Donald Trump, who is threatening to sue Cruz over eligibility claiming Cruz was born in Canada.
“I think he’s a very unstable guy,” said Trump. “I will tell you I have never ever met a person that lies more than Ted Cruz.”
Cruz fired back at Trump on the campaign trail in South Carolina.
“We’re not in grade school where you just get to say ‘liar, liar, liar pants on fire’ and not respond to substance,” said Cruz.
On the trail, Cruz is urging South Carolinians to ignore negative attack ads before they head to the polls.
“This election is going to be won or lost person to person, friend to friend, pastor to pastor and south carolinian to south carolinian,” said Cruz.
Cruz will continue campaigning across South Carolina the remainder of the week. On Wednesday, he will make several stops in the Upstate.
