Watch:Lead Investigator Discusses Budon Ct. Murder

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — On television shows, a case can be opened and closed in less than an hour.

Laurin Barnes and Kaitlin Hffstetler, daughters of Columbia murder victim Charles Kusko, say in reality this is far from the truth.

According to Barnes, “You think you’re going to have answers but it’s like a waiting game and it’s a beyond difficult waiting game.”

Its been five months since their father was found dead in his Budon Court home.
The lead investigator on the case, Andrew Richborg, says no arrest has been made during those five months, but explains that’s not uncommon,”Time frame for what goes into an investigation could extend from days to weeks to months to years.”
According to Richborg the time frame relies heavily on the circumstances surrounding the crime, he says, “We start with the people surrounding the victim and then we’ll work out any body that has any contact with the victim we try to reach out to them and solicit the communities help.”
The investigator tells ABC Columbia that there are multiple factors at play in this case, and many like it, that present challenges.
He says, “There’s no per say smoking gun on top of people not talking to us in the community.”

Despite obstacles in the case Investigator Richbourgh feels confident they’ll close the case, saying “I believe we’re going to figure out who did this.”
This is an outcome Kusko’s daughters say is worth the wait.
“We know nothing will bring him back but getting justice for him would do some good,” says Huffstetler.
