Foundation donates $500k to Young Men United

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A 500 thousand-dollar donation was given to expand the United Way of the Midlands initiative to create barrier-free pathways for young men of color to succeed.

Young Men United provides support to more than 75 young men in high school who are college-capable but need preparation.

10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students are surrounded by mentorship, professional development opportunities, and internships.

The donation was made by the Michael J. Mungo Foundation to expand the program to Irmo High School where 25 young men will join.

Program leaders say the money will go toward workplace and college tours and can even help the young men’s families.
