Frank Martin Makes Case for USC’s Potential Tournament Bid

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Frank Martin, of course, was going to defend his team.

After Carolina’s 65-64 loss to Georgia in the Quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament Friday night in Nashville, there are growing concerns among the fan base and internally at USC that the Gamecocks might miss the NCAA Tournament again.

Martin though thinks otherwise.

“If a third-place team that set a school record for wins and won 11 league games, didn’t lose a single game in non-conference play is not worthy of the NCAA, then we have a problem in our business,” Martin said.

The Gamecocks are currently on Joe Lunardi’s last four in, meaning Carolina would barely make the NCAA Tournament if all conference tournaments ended this afternoon.

Carolina fell to 24-8, 11-7 SEC after losing to Georgia Friday night. While Carolina did not lose a game in their non-conference schedule, it was a non-conference slate that ranked around the 300th toughest schedule in the country.

The Gamecocks also currently have one win against a team that Joe Lunardi says is a lock to go to the NCAA Tournament (Texas A&M).
