Dollar General joins growing list of retail chains reversing course on self-checkout technology

(CNN)– Dollar General is backtracking on self-checkout lanes after installing them in more than half of its stores.

It seems the chain’s hopes of saving money and speeding up the process haven’t panned out.

Dollar General says stores often reassign workers to help ring up customers despite the machines.

Shoplifting and other merchandise losses are also factors.

Going forward Dollar General says self-checkout will be the secondary payment option at its stores.
