SEC running back expected to transfer to South Carolina

Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks picked up a big transfer commitment this week from one notable SEC running back.

Former Arkansas back Rocket Sanders will transfer to South Carolina, according to a source with knowledge of the transfer.

Sanders is rated as the No. 3 running back in the transfer portal this year and is the biggest addition to the Gamecocks’ offense this transfer cycle. Sanders was a four-star recruit coming out of high school in 2021 and originally put Carolina as one of his finalists during recruiting.

The 6-foot-2 back appeared in six games in 2023, dealing with a nagging knee injury that kept him from seeing the field much, though his 2022 stats are eye-popping. Sanders earned All-SEC honors in 2022, rushing for 1,443 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding close to 300 receiving yards.

Sanders reunites with offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, a former Arkansas assistant.
