Richland Co., SC (WOLO) — The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says no charges will be filed as a result of a loaded gun found in an elementary school earlier this week. According to deputies the gun was located in a teachers work room at Round Top Elementary school on Monday night and discovered by a custodian who was working after school hours.

After further investigation deputies determined the gun belonged to a school security guard who officials say was a personal firearm that he has a concealed weapons permit to carry. The Sheriff’s Department says as far as their investigation has been able to determine, no children at the school were ever in “harm’s way” and there are no plans to charge the guard. RCSD says any administrative or disciplinary action will now be left up to the school district to handle as they see fit.
