Person wanted in Lexington County dead after Richland County deputy pursuit on I-26
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A wanted person is dead after a Richland County deputy pursuit on I-26 near Colonial Life Blvd, said RCSD.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says around 2:30 p.m. Lexington County Sheriff’s Department notified them of a wanted suspect operating a 2007 Nissan Versa.
Deputies say they spotted the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop but the individual did not stop and then a chase began.
On I-26 around Colonial Life Blvd. the person intentionally swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed head on with a citizen, said the sheriff’s department.
The victim that was hit head on was taken to the hospital to be checked out and two other vehicles were hit during the incident.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies ask that anyone driving on I-26 coming from downtown try to find an alternate route.
