The importance of donating blood ahead of ABC Columbia, Red Cross blood drive

Columbia, SC (WOLO) — ABC Columbia News along with the American Red Cross is teaming up to host our annual community blood drive Wednesday. It’s all in an effort to ensure blood supply is ready and available for those who need it.
according to the red cross every two seconds someone in the United States
needs blood and or platelets.

Mandy McWheter works with the organization and says this time of the year there is a decrease in donors due to the recent holidays.
She emphasizes the need for more donations to avoid a shortage that forces doctors to have to prioritize who gets essential care.

The drive will be held Wednesday from 11 am until 6 pm at the Flight Adventure Park Sandhill on Fashion drive. Each donor will receive a t-shirt and a chance to win a trip for two to the super bowl in Las Vegas.
