Atlantic Beach fires nearly all its employees

ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Atlantic Beach has fired all three of its police officers, two municipal judges and four other town employees just hours after two new councilwomen took their seats.

Town Manager William Booker told The Sun News of Myrtle Beach (http://bit.ly/ppj4N3 ) he wasn’t surprised that some lost their jobs when the composition of Town Council changed. But he is surprised so many employees were fired

Booker says he will find out if he keeps his job in three weeks.

Carolyn Cole and Windy Price were sworn into office during an emergency meeting Tuesday night. The South Carolina Supreme Court earlier this month declared them winners of a contested 2009 election.

Police officer Randy Fisher says town employees were told individually during meetings Wednesday that Atlantic Beach is moving in a different direction.
