SLED confirms it is investigating Colleton Co. Clerk of Court

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–The Clerk of Court at the center of convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh’s efforts at a new trial is now under investigation herself.

A spokesperson for State Law Enforcement Division confirms to ABC Columbia News that Rebecca Hill is the subject of two investigations; one being her alleged interactions with the jury in Murdaugh’s trial for the murders of his wife and child and two, regarding allegations she used her elected position for personal gain.

Attorneys for Murdaugh accuse Hill of instructing the Colleton Co. jury disregard some testimony for the defense.

Activities defense attorneys say were detailed in Hill’s book, “Behind the Doors of Justice: The Murdaugh Murders”, a book she later admitted was in part plagiarized.

Murduagh is currently serving concurrent life sentences for the murders of his wife Maggie and son Paul.

A hearing on the defense’s request for a retrial will be heard by the South Carolina Supreme Court on January 29th.
