LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (Blowfish) — Pandemonium struck in Lexington County tonight when the Blowfish walked off on the Florence RedWolves.

But it wasn’t your ordinary walk off.

Lexington County clawed back to score 7 runs in the ninth inning to beat Florence on a walk off wild pitch. What happened before the ninth was even more spectatular.

The Blowfish led the RedWolves 7-3 going into the top half of the eighth inning. All Florence would do would bring 19 men to the plate en route to a 14 run, 12 hit eighth inning. The RedWolves had the first 12 batters reach base safely in the half inning and led Lexington County 17-7.

The Blowfish scored four of their own in the home half of the eighth. Chas McCormick (Millersville) knocked in one via a sacrifice fly and Danny Edgeworth (Mercer) plated two of the four runs on a two run single.

Lexington County kept Florence in check in the ninth and the magic continued for the Fish in the home half of the ninth.

The Blowfish stormed back when the first eight batters of the inning reached base safely. At that time the lead dwindled down to 17-16 for Florence.

With bases loaded Sam Brooks (Bethune Cookman) knocked an RBI single to plate Kyle Carruthers (UNC Asheboro) to tie the game. Derek Olenchuk would be next to try and play hero.

On a ball that skipped well wide of the plate, Ryan Sinzenich (Florida Tech) was unable to keep the wild pitch from Brett Porter (Florida Tech) from reaching the backstop.

Edgeworth sprinted on in with the winning run completing the miraculous comeback walk-off victory for the Blowfish.

It ends a four game skid Lexington County as the Blowfish head to Martinsville tomorrow night to play the Mustangs. Coverage begins at 7p.m. on z93.1 FM The Lake and first pitch is scheduled for 7:17p.m.
