(WOLO) COLUMBIA S.C. Bishop Mark Lawrence of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina says the final split with the national Episcopal Church has brought clarity and allows the faithful to look to the future. The diocese left the national church last year in a dispute over doctrine including the ordination of gays. Lawrence says the diocese in the eastern part of the state can now start new churches, while strengthening others and working with Anglicans worldwide. The diocese went to court to protect it’s name and property. Lawrence went on to say it won’t try to coerce the 20 or so diocesan parishes who want to stay with the national church into leaving.
