State Superintendent of Education requests inquiry into R1 learning center

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland School District One officials have spoken out after becoming aware of a requested inquiry by the State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver.

Weaver requested the inquiry be done by the the Office of the State Inspector General concerning the construction of Vince Ford Early Learning Center.

The district says its recognizes the positive impact that early childhood education has on student outcomes and have been working to increase such access for its youngest learners.

Also the districted pointed out that construction was stopped on the project due to the process of clarifying any issues or concerns regarding zoning and programming.

The funds for the early learning center was approved by Richland One Board of School Commissioners in December 2022.

District officials say they welcome the inquiry from the Inspector General’s Office.
