Study: Self-checkout hurting customer loyalty
(CNN)– A new study finds self-checkouts are hurting customer loyalty to many businesses.
Drexel University researchers say customer loyalty is on a downward trend partly because people don’t want to ring up their own items.
The study published in the Business Research Journal found people prefer a regular checkout where they interact with an employee.
Also it said customers “feel like they were treated more valuably,”
The data also says stores are suffering losses in merchandise due to customer scanning errors or deliberate shoplifting.
As a result, many retailers are making changes to their self-checkout policies.
